General Information

Majors is the most competitive division in Little League.

Spring Season

In the Spring season, players must attend a tryout in order to be drafted to the Majors division. Players will be selected based on results of the player evaluations and the number of open spots in a given year. Players not drafted to a Majors team are placed in the Upper Minors division. 

Fall Season

The Fall Ball season is considered a developmental season for players that are moving up to from the Upper Minors Division.  There are fewer practices and games. 

Division Information


Ages: League ages 8-12 (Click here to determine Little League Age)
Players that are league age 8 are eligible for coach pitch or player pitch (upper minors). Players who are interested in playing up to Majors must try out and be evaluated to play at that level.

Pitching:  Players are pitching from a pitching rubber that is 40' from the back of home plate.

Practices: 1-2 practices per week (Monday through Friday) in the Spring Season, 1 practice per week (Monday through Friday) in the Fall Season.

Games: 
1 to 2 a week (Monday through Saturday) in the Spring season and 1 to 2 a week on Saturday mornings in the Fall

Field Locations: 
Azalea Park is the home field for Central Little League Softball Majors for games and practices. Team practices may be located at other fields.

Ball Size: 
This division uses a 12" ball


Required Equipment: 

Fielding Glove

Make sure your glove can fit a 11"  ball comfortably.  Average fielding glove size may range from 11" - 12+".

Batting Helmet: 
All players need a well-fitting batting helmet with a facemask attached.

Fielding Mask:
Fielding masks are required at all times.

Cleats: 
Cleats are strongly recommended. Cleats marketed for other sports work just fine. No metal spikes are allowed.

Uniforms:
The league will provide a uniform shirt. Players  should provide their own solid black softball pants and socks.


Equipment Recommendations:

Sliding shorts/Knee pads: Sliding will be expected at the Minors level. Wearing is sliding shorts or knee pads is optional, but  helpful to protect against scrapes and bruises.

Bat Size:
Typical bat size at this level may range from 28" to 30" in length. Check Dick's Sporting Goods link for a softball bat buying guide. Little League requires softball bats to have a USSSA stamp/logo and  have a BPF (bat performance factor) of 1.20.  Most new bats on the market will meet this requirement and most have met this requirement for several years.
